So far so good for the The Edge picks overall.  Welcome to our fifth edition of The Edge.  Our goal in this weekly column will be to give you an edge in the world of fantasy football.  Unlike typical fantasy columnists, we have developed a statistical model (which is easy to use and free for download here: @ ihavetheedge.com) that we will use as the basis for our recommendations and analysis.

We will focus on finding the “Edge Sleeper” since anyone can tell you LaDainian Thomas, Peyton Manning, Chad Johnson, etc… are good picks. “Edge Sleepers” are defined as picks not found in the top 5 and mostly likely not in the top 10 by various publications.  In the end, the goal of a weekly sleeper pick is to find someone on your bench or maybe even available as a free agent to be scoring near the Top 5 for that position.

QUARTERBACK

Trent Green, Miami
Oakland is having a hard time on defense, particularly against the pass.  Trent has been able to rack up decent fantasy points, though the team can’t seem to win.  Expect Trent to get a good deal of points this week and maybe even a win for the team.

Marc Bulger, St. Louis
The Rams have to score eventually, don’t they? Expect Bulger to bounce back against a terrible Cowboys pass defense.

RUNNING BACK

Thomas Jones, New York Jets
Thomas had to play some tough defenses to start the year (New England and Baltimore).  Last week the Jets played a weak run defensive team Miami.  Jones racked up over a 100 yds.  This week it’s a weak Buffalo defense; we expect another 100 yds and maybe a touchdown.

Marshawn Lynch, Buffalo
Very few rookies produce good fantasy numbers, but Lynch is off to a good start. He’s scored a touchdown in two of the first three games.  He’s going against a Jets defense that isn’t good against the run.

WIDE RECEIVER

Greg Jennings, Green Bay
Once again, we are riding the coat tails of Brett Favre.  Brett is playing unbelievable and Greg was on the receiving end last week.  This was Greg’s first game back from injury this year.  Next week Green Bay goes up against arch rival Minnesota.  This should be a good game for Greg.

Chris Chambers, Miami
Oakland’s pass defense has not been very good thus far this season.  Chambers and Trent Green are getting on the same page, with Chambers going over 100 yards the last two weeks.
